Things EVERY Homeowner Should Be Doing to Maintain their Roof

As a homeowner, it is your job to properly care for your home so it can serve you effectively for years to come. One section of the house that is often overlooked in home maintenance is the roof. So, here are some roofing MUST’S for homeowners.

Regularly Clean Gutters

Regularly cleaning your gutters allows them to function properly. Clogged gutters are unable to properly direct rainwater away from your roof to the ground. This results in excess rainwater collecting in the gutters. This can cause your gutters to rust quicker and even weaken materials supporting the roof.

Trim Back Trees

If you have trees roof level or higher in close proximity to your home, than ensuring that all branches are kept trimmed back is very important. A storm, strong winds or other bad weather conditions can cause debris from surrounding trees to potentially damage your roof. For instance, broken branches can get dragged along your roof and your gutters can become clogged with leaves.

Trimming back trees before they extend over your home prevents your roof from this form of damage.

Avoid Pulling Up Roof Shingles

If your roof is exhibiting signs of a leak, avoid pulling up roofing shingles in the potential area to try and identify the exact location of the leak. This just further compromises the overall integrity of your roof.

If you suspect that your roof is leaking, unless you have the knowledge and skill to perform repairs yourself, it’s best to call in a licensed roofing company to assess the situation.

If you do not have the knowledge or skill to perform roof work yourself, make sure you seek the help of roofing professionals. Here at Turnbull Roofing, our team of roofing professionals can accurately assess your situation, provide you with a quote for the repairs and takes pride in performing high-quality repairs.
