Choosing a Roofing Contractor

Things to Consider Before Hiring a Roofing Contractor

Do you have curling or cracked shingles? Are there leaks in the ceiling? Do you see asphalt granules in the gutters? All or any one of these signs can mean it’s time to replace your home’s roof.

So where do you start?

Here are a few things to consider before you hire any roofing contractor but a reputable one. Make it a point to sit down with three or more recommended roofers and ask the following questions:

  • What are the full names and the physical addresses of the companies? Do some research on the internet too, if you prefer. This will verify that the company is credible.
  • Does the company carry insurance? Contractors should carry both comprehensive liability insurance and workers’ compensation to protect you as the homeowner in the event that an accident occurs.
  • Is the company a licensed and/or a credentialed contractor? Although not all jurisdictions require licensing, it is a good indicator that the contractor is knowledgeable and dedicated.
  • How long has the company been in business? The longer the company has been in business, the better; the lifespan for most small businesses is three years.
  • Will the company provide referrals or references from previous jobs? Ask for a list of names and phone numbers of previous employers and try to get photos of the roofer’s completed work.
  • What is the company’s workmanship warranty? Warranties that cover the installer’s work should typically cover a minimum of a one-year time span.
  • What is the company’s track record for solving customer complaints? Request a referral from a job that involved a complaint. This will show the homeowner how the contractor handles problems when they do arise.

After a strong research and talking to the prospective contractors, hire a roofing contractor which offers the highest quality roofing that is durable too. Remember – quality and durability!

Turnbull Roofing & Renovations Ltd differentiates themselves from their competition with three key fundamental points. First, all of our roofing installers are EMPLOYEES, NOT SUB-CONTRACTORS. Second, all of our roofing installers are required to participate in independent Working at Heights classroom training. Third, our company provides comprehensive insurance coverage for our employees and customers in the form of a five million dollar commercial liability insurance policy, workplace safety and insurance board coverage (WSIB), as well as compliance to manufacturer’s strict safety and protocol standards, supporting employee’s in the event of an accident and keeping homeowner’s protected from fines/by-laws, which are in place today by The Ministry of Labour.
